Cancer Surgery

Head & Neck cancer treatment

Head and neck cancer are a unique set of malignant conditions that can affect the skin, mucosal linings, or deep structures of some of the body’s most critical components. The treatment of these cancers can be fraught with fear and uncertainty. We recognize the distinct challenges that malignancies in these vulnerable areas bring and work to provide compassionate care to those faced with these tough situations.

We see and treat cancers and benign tumors of the scalp, face, ears, nose, sinuses, cranial/skull base, eyes, jaw, mouth, salivary glands, throat, tonsils, tongue, tooth sockets, larynx/voice box, thyroid gland, parathyroid glands, and neck. This includes endoscopic, robotic, and traditional approaches to these anatomically complex and confined regions.

Comprehensive Cancer CAre.

We see cancer through from diagnosis, to treatment, and most importantly into survival. We perform in-office biopsies, imaging and the necessary diagnostics for the detection and recognition of head and neck cancers in addition to delivering and arranging surgical or non-surgical treatments.

Procedures.

Mouth

Treatment of benign and malignant tumors of the lips, teeth, gums, tongue, jaw, palate and cheek. This includes the structures of the mandible, maxilla and surrounding facial skeleton.

Throat/ Larynx/ esophagus

Treatment of tumors or conditions of the pharynx/ throat, larynx/ voice box, and upper esophagus. This includes tumors of the nasopharynx. Often this involves robotic, endoscopic or other minimally-invasive approaches to these hard-reached areas.

Ears/Nose/Skin

Skin (cutaneous) and structural tumors or conditions of the internal and external portions of the nose and ears, including tumors of the sinuses. We see and treat head and neck skin cancers including melanoma and rare sarcoma tumors. At times, your dermatology provider will refer you for sentinel lymph node biopsy or removal procedures by a Head & Neck surgeon.

Vascular/ Nerve Tumors

We see and treat various rare benign and malignant tumors of the head & neck which affect the major nerves and vessels bridging from the neck to skull.

Salivary Glands

Tumors and cancers can arise in the salivary tissue of the parotid, submandibular, sublingual or minor glands. This can include involvement of these structures by adjacent tumors of the mouth or facial skin.

Thyroid/ Parathyroid Glands

Endocrine surgery of the thyroid and parathyroid glands is a common need for referral to a Head & Neck Surgeon. This includes surgery for hormone over-production, nodules, and biopsies.

Skull Base/ Cranial Base/ Spine

Tumors and conditions can often cross the boundary lines between the nervous system and outside head & neck structures. Skull base surgery involves close collaboration between surgical specialists who treat these vital boundary points including neurosurgeons, eye surgeons, spine surgeons and other ENT sub-specialists.
